Important update to categories on OUI

 

Why are you updating the category in the following sections: Classifieds, Jobs, and Community?

 

We are enhancing the browsing experience for buyers on OUI to help them connect faster with listers. We are changing the way categories are organized, which will affect all ads currently placed in some categories in the Classifieds, Jobs and Community sections.

 

Which sections will be affected?

 

Some of the categories under the Classifieds, Community, and Jobs sections will no longer exist as of January 1st, 2021. The affected categories are as follow: 

 

1. Classifieds: Books, Music, Musical Instruments, Pets, Sports Equipments, Furniture & Home & Garden, Free Stuff, Business & Industrial, Computers & Networking, Gaming, Electronics, DVD & Movies, Cameras & Imaging, Home Appliances, and Clothing & Accessories

 

2. Community: News and Clubs

 

3. Jobs: Jobs offered

 

4. Stuff wanted

 

What will happen to my ad?

 

If you have a live ad in one of these categories, please delete and repost it in a new category to make it easier for buyers to find the item you are selling.

 

Otherwise, all affected categories along with the live ads in them will be automatically deleted on January 1st, 2021

 

What is the deadline for deleting my ad?

 

All ads in affected categories will be automatically deleted on January 1st, 2021.

 

Will I be able to feature my ad?

 

Yes, but no later than January 1st, 2021, while keeping in mind that all ads in affected categories will be deleted on January 1st, 2021

 

Why has my ad been deleted from OUI?

 

We are improving our platform by updating our ads categories. The deadline to delete ads was January 1st, 2021, and since this has now passed, and your ad was in one of the impacted categories, it has been automatically taken down. Please review the new categories and repost your ad in the most relevant one.

 

Why can't I see the original category while posting my ad again?

 

We've revamped our categories to make it even easier for sellers to post their items and for buyers to find what they want. This could be why you can no longer see the category in which you've previously posted an ad. Please go through the new categories and repost your ad in the most relevant one.

 

When will my new ad appear on the website?

 

This hasn't changed, and our service remains as quick and convenient as ever. Your ad will appear as usual within 1-5 minutes of posting.

Miscategorized

 

Placing an ad in the wrong category, e.g. Property for Rent ad placed in Property for Sale category, mobile phone in Mobile Accessories, car for sale in Classifieds, etc.

 

Repetitive

 

Placing the same ad in more than one category or placing the same ad more than once in the same category.

 

Spam 

 

Placing the same ad through multiple accounts.

 

Prohibited 

 

Placing an ad that contains offensive, addictive or offers illegal products or services, e.g. Radar Detector/ Spy Camera, Shisha, cigarettes, vape and electronic cigarettes.

 

Adding mobile numbers to images & Ad Title is prohibited, along with multiple items being advertised in a single ad.

 

Illegal Items

 

Placing an ad for an illegal product or service, e.g. selling pets.

 

Misleading / Invalid Price

 

Wrong mobile number on an ad, missing digits, numbers non-Kinshasa mobile number, Incorrect Price (e.g. 123456, 111, 222 or 999), posting an advertisement without photos.

 

Multiple listings in a single ad

 

Posting more than one item in a single ad, e.g. posting more than one room in one Room for Rent ad, more than one car in a single-car ad, more than one mobile phone in a single mobile ad.

 

How do I edit/delete my ads?

 

From your "Account" drop-down menu, choose the "My Ads" page. You can edit and delete any of your ads on oui.cd.

 

To visit your "My Ads" page, make sure that you are logged into your account, and click on the "My Ads" under your account link that appears at the top of the page.

 

Once you are on the "My Ads" page, you can edit your ad by clicking the "Edit" icon that appears next to each one of your ads. To delete your ad, you can click on the icon beside the edit icon, or you can tick the check box to the left of each ad you wish to delete, and then push the "Delete Selected" button that appears both above and below the listings.

How can I refresh my free ads?

 

Right now, there is no facility yet to refresh your ad on OUI.

 

If you wish to push your ad back to the top page, you need to re-post it. If you chose to do this, we ask that you delete the old ad to prevent duplicates.

 

Duplicate ad listing can lead to account suspension.

 

We are continuously doing our best to improve the efficiency of the site's features significantly, and it may just take us a little bit of time.

 

How can I change the city of my free Ads?

 

There is no facility yet that will enable you to edit your ad and change the city wherein you originally posted it.

 

We suggest that you re-post it to the correct city.

 

To change the city, click on the city name that you will see on the top left of the home page, and then use the drop-down menus to select the city.

 

Can I post my ad to different cities?

 

Service ads may be posted in a maximum of three different cities, but ads posted in other sections may only be posted in one city.

 

How can I change the category of my free ads?

 

There is no facility yet that will enable you to edit your ad and change the category wherein you originally posted it. We suggest that you re-post it to the correct type. If you chose to do this, we ask that you delete the old ad to prevent duplicates. Duplicate ad listing can lead to account suspension. We are continuously doing our best to improve the efficiency of the site's features significantly, and it may just take us a little bit of time.

 

Why is the "Send Reply" button not working on my ad?

 

Please note that if you view your ad while you're logged in to your OUI account, the "Reply to this Ad" will not be available because it is your ad. It will be visible to all other users and you once you logged out.

 

Why did my ad disappear? How long does my ad stay on the website?

 

Please note that your ad will stay on the site until you delete it or until it expires.

 

The length that a listing stays on the website before it expires may vary from city to city. Currently, however, below is a list of the minimum amount of time an ad stays on the site per section:

 

Classifieds: 30 days

 

Motors > Used Cars: 30 days for the classic package. (number of days change depending on the package you choose

 

Property for Sale: 60 days

 

Property for Rent: 30 days

 

Jobs: 30 days

 

Community: 30 days

 

I prefer to be contacted through email; how can I hide my mobile number?

 

In Classifieds & Community Sections, there's an option to either show or hide your mobile number on your ads.

 

To hide your mobile number, please delete the registered mobile number that has been populated on the "Phone Number" field and fill all the mandatory fields, then click Submit

4 Things you need to know about VAT

 

a)      What is VAT?

 

Value Added Tax (VAT) is a consumption tax introduced by the Kinshasa Government on January 1st 2018, at a standard rate of 16 % applicable to most goods and services across Kinshasa.

 

b)      Which OUI services will be subject to VAT?

 

VAT will only apply to paid services, i.e. sellers who post an ad in a paid category, such as Motors, Property, Jobs, and featured ads in any category.

 

c)      Will VAT charges show on the invoice?

 

In compliance with the provisions of the law and its Executive Regulations, all services provided by OUI starting January 1st 2018, will be subject to VAT, which will be reflected on all invoices.

 

d)      Where can I get more information?

What is VAT, and how does it affect my relationship with OUI?

 

As we approach the introduction of VAT in Kinshasa, we expect all our valued customers to be preparing for full compliance as of January 1st 2018. VAT is a consumption tax that customers are obligated to pay, and OUI will only act as a collection Agent on behalf of the taxation authority. Learn more about VAT below.

 

ü  What is VAT?

 

Value Added Tax (VAT) is an indirect tax introduced by the Kinshasa Government, which will be payable by both business and Individuals.

 

ü  When will the VAT go into effect, and what will be the rates?

 

VAT will be introduced across Kinshasa on January 1st 2018, at a standard rate of 16 %.

 

ü  How will VAT apply to OUI services?

 

VAT will apply to services at a rate of 16 %. Further details regarding VAT application on our services will be made available in the coming weeks.

 

ü  Is it compulsory to pay VAT?

 

Exceptions to VAT are only by law, and the Federal Tax Authority publishes these. Business owners can claim back their VAT payments, provided they have registered for VAT and meet the requirements. For further details, please visit www.tax.gov.

 

ü  Will OUI charge VAT on my invoices?

 

From January 1st 2018, all services provided by OUI shall have VAT applied upon their charges/fees in compliance with the provisions of the law and its Executive Regulations. Transitional arrangements will apply for contracts and/or services that span January 1st 2018. 

 

ü  How can a business register for VAT and receive a Tax Registration Number ?

 

Businesses can register for VAT tax through the e-services section on the DGI website. However, they need to sign up for an account first. For more details about VAT tax registration, please read the VAT registration User Guide.

 

ü  I am a Business owner. I have registered with the Kinshasa Federal Tax Authority and have received my certificate and Tax Registration Number (TRN). Do I need to share this with OUI?

 

Yes, once you receive your Tax registration number, you are required to send this to us. This is important for us to update your account details and ensure that your Tax Registration Number is reflected on our monthly tax invoice. The inclusion of your Tax Registration Number  on our invoice is required for you to claim back the incurred VAT within your VAT return.

How can I change my mobile number?

 

If you wish to update or change your phone number in your account, select change number, you will get a code. Once the code is submitted, your number will be updated on your account. 

 

If you're having issues updating your number, please feel free to contact our Customer Support team, and we'll be more than happy to assist you. 

 

Why and how do I authenticate my account?

 

To combat online frauds and scams, users must verify their account by SMS to place an ad. Users must have a local mobile number to place an advertisement on OUI, as over 99% of the scams we have encountered on OUI have been placed by users outside of Kinshasa.

 

After you register and place your first ad, you will be asked to verify your account you will get a code. Once the code is submitted, you'll be able to access your account, and if you placed your ad before this verification, it could be live now and ready to receive responses.

 

How can I change my email address?

 

This can be done from your Account Settings page. To access your Account Settings page, go to oui.cd and make sure that you're logged into your account. Click on your Account link on top of the web page, and then click on the "Account Settings" button that appears on your profile page.

 

On your Account Settings page, you will have the option to change the email address on your account. Click on the "Edit" link next to the email address, enter the new email address and click on "Change Email".

 

Once the email address used is available, you will be redirected to the verification page. 

 

Ensure that the number you see is yours, then click on the "Send Verification Code", Enter the code, and the email change will be changed. If you see a different number on the verification page, kindly contact our customer support team by visiting https://oui.cd/contact-us.

 

I deleted my account; how can I reactivate it?

 

If you've deleted your account, you will not be able to reactivate your account or sign up for a new one using the same email address and mobile phone number.

 

If you wish to reactivate your account, you will need to send a request to our customer support team by visiting https://oui.cd/contact-us.

 

I have already deleted my account, but why I can't register using the same email address?

 

Please note that even if you had already deleted your account, the email address would remain registered in our database. Therefore it can no longer be used for a new registration or email address change.

 

We suggest that you use a different email address, OR we could reactivate the account mentioned above if you wish; send a request to our customer support team by visiting https://oui.cd/contact-us.

 

Why does it say, "The number you have entered is not a valid mobile number." whenever I try to register while placing an ad?

 

We regret to inform you that at the moment, the entire service is only available to Kinshasa users with local numbers that can receive/send the SMS locally.

 

However, you may still register on the site without a mobile number needed through this link (But you won't be able to place an ad): http://oui.cd/.

 

Why does it say, "This mobile number is already associated with another account." While I'm creating an account?

 

This message only displays when the mobile number you are attempting to create an account already has an existing account with oui.cd. If you have created this account a long time ago and do not remember the password, you may click on the "forgot password" link on the log in page to have a password reset link sent to your email. If you are sure that you have never created an account with OUI before using this mobile number, it is possible that someone had the same mobile number before you and used it to make an OUI account. If you feel that this may be the case, please contact us by visiting https://oui.cd/contact-us.

 

I tried to sign in, but it says that my account is INACTIVE. Why?

 

There are a few possible reasons that you may be getting this message:

 

If you have registered within the last 48 hours, you may be getting this message because your account has not yet been fully activated. Depending on how you registered, you can activate your account by the applicable method below:

 

· If you registered by clicking on the "Sign up / Register" button at the top of the web page, you will need to click on the link in the confirmation email to activate your account.

 

· If you registered while placing an ad, you will need to send your verification SMS to activate your account from the mobile number you registered. 

 

· If you have deleted your account from your account settings page at some point in the past. To reactivate your account, you will need to send a request to our customer support team by visiting https://oui.cd/contact-us

 

· If you have had an active account in the past that is now inactive, this means that our support staff might have blocked your account. If this is the case, we kindly request you to contact our customer support team by visiting https://oui.cd/contact-us.

 

How do I watch over an ad?

To watch over an ad, we suggest that you add it to your Favorites. The Favorites allows you to bookmark ads you are interested in on OUI. When you add an item to your Favorites, a link to that ad will remain in your Favorites until the ad expires or is removed.

Here's how to add an ad on your Favorites:

To add an item to your Favorites, click on the "Start" button that can be found on every ad. A notification will prompt you to confirm that it was added to your watchlist.

Here's how to manage your Favorites:

 

·      Make sure you are logged into your account on OUI. 

 

·      Go to your account page by clicking on your "Account" link on the top of the page, above "Place an Ad". 

 

·      Select My Favorites

 

·      From this page, you can delete any of your saved Favorites on OUI.

 

However, we do not currently have the functionality to alert you when an ad in your Favorites has been updated, changed or deleted.

 

How do I save my searches, and can I get updates of new ads that I'm searching for?

 

You can save your searches and manage them.

 

To save a search, click on the "save search" button after running the investigation. A confirmation will appear, then keep it.

 

I've sent several emails to an ad, but I haven't received a single response. What do I do?

 

In this case, all you can do is wait and send another message to the advertiser. Some users may take a while to respond, others may get so many responses that they don't reply to them all, and others may have already sold, rented or fulfilled their listing but have not deleted their ad yet.

 

Unfortunately, in this case, there is not much OUI can do to help you. Our privacy policy strictly prohibits us from releasing private contact information about the user and prohibits us from using the user's personal contact information to contact them on another user's behalf. Luckily, there are many ads on oui.cd , and you should be able to find a comparable deal soon.

 

Fraud And Safety

Scam alert: do not share your credit card information!

 

We have become aware of ongoing phishing attempts targeting sellers on OUI. Please rest assured that we are investigating this issue right now. 

 

Ø  Who is being targeted, and how do I know if I was affected?

 

If you have an active listing on OUI right now, you may have received an SMS / WhatsApp message from a random number pretending to be OUI and asking you to confirm OUI delivery along with a clickable link.

 

Ø  Please do not click on this link or follow any of the instructions. This is a scam attempt.

 

The following screen informs you that a buyer has made a payment for the item you are selling and asks you to enter your credit card details to deposit the money onto your card. Please do not follow these instructions and exit the screen immediately.

 

Ø  Necessary: We DO NOT make any payments on your behalf from buyers. The only thing you will pay for on OUI is for listings or premium products, and you'll make those payments only during the listing process. Additionally, we will never ask you to download anything outside of the official Google and Apple app stores.

 

Ø  How can I protect myself?

 

Please do not share your debit/credit card details, delete this SMS, block the sender, and delete any other files you have downloaded immediately. In any case, most devices have a security setting that, by default, does not allow downloading apps from unauthorized sources. 

 

Ø  What happens if I already clicked on the link in the SMS / WhatsApp message?

 

There is little risk in clicking on the link itself; however, please DO NOT LOG IN unless you're doing so on the official OUI app or website. Beware that the link opens a window that looks like OUI. DO NOT MAKE any payments unless you're doing so to the buyer's face to face.

 

Ø  As always, remember these tips:

 

- Always exchange money face-to-face for your items. We do not collect any payments from buyers on your behalf.

 

- If a buyer offers a bank transfer or shares any proof of payment, do not send your item(s) in exchange unless you have confirmed the payment in your account.

 

- Never share your personal information such as bank account or card details with strangers.

 

- For your safety and privacy, choose to communicate with buyers through the built-in OUI chat functionality.

  • Do not share your personal information with anyone - even if they claim they are from OUI

Ø  Are you looking for a job on OUI? 

 

  • Never wire money outside the country to process the visa and other documents for the promised job.
  • Never pay an application fee. It is illegal for recruiters to request payment from job applicants in the Kinshasa.

 

Ø  Are you selling your car on OUI?

 

  • Never reply to an SMS with your credit card information. OUI will never send an SMS asking for your personal information
  • Never respond to any email claiming to represent OUI concerning your ads except for [email protected] 
  • The only email account OUI uses for customer support is [email protected]

 

Ø  Are you buying a car on OUI?

 

  • Never send money to anyone outside the country unless you see the actual car and meet the owner.

 

Ø  Are you looking for your next home on OUI?

 

  • If it's a landlord, make sure they have the original title deed of the property to ensure it is registered under his/her name.
  • If it's someone on behalf of the landlord, make sure they have a power of attorney.
  • Always register the tenancy contract through the online system.

 

Ø  What should you do if you suspect a scam?

 

If you suspect you've been scammed, don't hesitate to contact our support team immediately through the contact us form.

 

Our support team will then delete the scam ad and block the user's account.

Phishing through chat

 

Here at OUI, we always do our utmost to educate our users on potential dangers they might encounter when using OUI. With our Chat feature up and running, here are a few things to keep in mind: 

 

  • OUI will never contact anyone via Chat or SMS to warn you regarding disciplinary measures on your account/ads, and we will only contact users through the following email: [email protected]
  • Always login through OUI directly WITHOUT using any links, and always check for a small padlock next to the website address on your browser to make sure it's a secure site

 

See below for some phishing & scamming examples on chat:

 

These messages aim to get your login details or credit card information. You will be redirected to a website prompting you to enter your OUI credentials or your personal information. This will give the potential scammers full access to your account. Don't fall victim to this!

 

You might get all kinds of "warnings" over chat, so always remember: OUI will never contact anyone via Chat or SMS to warn you regarding disciplinary measures on your account/ads.

What Is SMS Phishing?

 

SMS Phishing

 

Increasingly, SMS messages are being used as a way of tricking people into giving up their OUI accounts, passwords, OTPs, re-send SMS authentications and out of their identities.

 

The technology that powers texts enables people to put custom names when they send messages – allowing people to pretend to be OUI, or anybody else.

 

The only time OUI sent out SMSs to users is to promote any products/services. For now, links embedded start with, http://ouil.cd  ,  https://okab.cd

 

OUI will never ask you to re-confirm your identity or personal information in any of these forms. As such, the main thing is never to give any information over text message and only use it to show alerts. You never know who is texting you or whom you are texting – so treat it with extreme caution.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Phishing Attempt: is this an email that I received from OUI?

 

If you have posted an ad on OUI, we will send you a small number of emails to keep you updated on the status of your ad. Sometimes you may receive an email that looks like it is from OUI, but you aren't sure.

 

Spoof / Phishing emails are fake emails made to look like a legitimate company has sent them. They trick people into either replying or clicking a link to reveal confidential information like bank account details or account email and passwords.

 

ü  How to spot a spoof email

 

  • Urgency required to act on an ad or account status: Often spoof emails threaten you with removing your ad, account blocking or restrict your website access unless you reconfirm your account details.  We would never do this!
  • Sender's email address: Email addresses are easily forged, so never assume the address that appears in the 'From' line is real. Just because it says the email is from [email protected] doesn't mean it is.
  • Links to a fake website requesting personal information: The spoof email usually contains a link to a fake website that looks like the OUI site. One way to tell if they're fake is by looking at the URL (see example below). Legitimate OUI pages will always be on oui.cd.
  • Fake websites

Never follow instructions on such sites.

 

ü  Protect yourself from receiving spoof emails

 

Never publish your email address details publicly on any website. On OUI, we enable you to hide your email address and opt instead to receive replies to your ad via an online reply form. We then automatically direct the responses to your email inbox via our system. This way, we can protect you from receiving spoofed emails.

 

ü  How to report a spoof email

 

If you think you've received a spoof email or you'd like to report one to us, report it to us here. Please copy and paste the entire contents of the email, and don't forget to include the email address it's been sent from. We'll have a look at it and get back to you in a few hours. 

 

Tips to stay safe when looking for a job on OUI

 

  • Never share your personal or financial details with anyone - even if they claim they are from OUI
  • Never wire money or other documents outside of the country to process your visa
  • Never pay an application fee. It is illegal for recruiters to request payment from job applicants in the Kinshasa
  • Stay alert for suspicious signs such as companies using free email domains, errors in grammar and spelling and ads offering attractive salaries without requiring any experience or skills

 

Always verify the authenticity of the company you are dealing with before deciding to accept job offers. Do some research on the company, read reviews, check if they have a website and compare the information sent to you from them.

Are you looking for a new home for your pet on OUI?

 

  • Do not share your personal information with anyone - even if they claim they are from OUI.

 

 Are you are looking for a pet to adopt on OUI? 

 

OUI can be a great place to find a pet to assume. However, you must always be careful of scammers. Make sure you keep these factors in mind when looking to adopt:

 

  • Some ads will ask for an adoption fee, shipping fee or vaccine fees. Don't send money to any individual or 3rd party, especially if the person is outside Kinshasa or using a non-Kinshasa contact number.
  • The most common scams include sending money and never hearing from the receiver again.
  • Scammers tend to make up stories of why you must wire the money to them. Often their stories are believable but don't believe it! When doing any business through OUI, always meet in person - it helps to avoid scammers who rely on online anonymity.

What is a OUI Verification code?

 

A OUI Verification code is an added security measure. It is a compulsory second-level authentication required from you to complete certain transactions. It further secures your OUI Account and your current listings. Currently, the OUI Verification code can only be received via SMS to the mobile number you have registered with OUI or the number listed on your current listings. 

 

The OUI Verification code is an automated 7-digit number which you will receive via SMS from OUI in case of the following transactions: Editing your listing, Changing your Passwords, and Deactivating your OUI Account.

 

How OUI Verification code works?

 

The newly implemented verification code will keep your Account protected from any potential phishing and scamming. The OUI Verification code is an automated 7-digit number that you will receive via SMS from OUI in case of the following transactions:

 

 

 

ü  Changing Passwords

 

To change the password of your Account, you have to first sign in to your Account, then click on "Account Settings" then click on Password's "Edit", click on "verify your account" then you will be prompted to the page where you need to select the mobile number where you want to send the code.

 

ü  Deactivating the Account

 

To deactivate your Account on OUI, you have to first sign in to your Account. Click on "Account Settings" then click "Delete" then click on "verify your account" then, you will be prompted to the page where you need to select the mobile number where you want to send the code.

 

ü  Editing your Ads:

 

To edit your ads, Click on "My Ads", go to the ad you wish to edit and then click on "Edit", which can be found in the "My ads" list. Once you click on edit, you will be prompted to select the phone number. You can choose between the registered phone number or the one listed in the ad.

 

Choose the Phone number you wish to send the code and click on "Send verification code", and you will receive it in few moments. Make sure not to share the code with anyone or to any other page.

 

 Once you receive the code, enter on the same page where you stopped and click on "Submit" to proceed. 

 

That's it! Changes will be made whether in your Account or on your listings.

Motor FAQ’s

 

How does the maximum number of live auto listings work?

 

Depending on which auto account you subscribe to, you will have a maximum number of live auto listings that you can have published. When you reach the top, you will no longer be able to post new listings until you delete an auto listing from My Ads or sign up for a larger auto package.

 

What are the benefits of signing up for a paid Pro Autos account?

What is a Featured Ad?

 

Featured Ads appear as the first five slots in the list for a community search, directly under the Promoted Ad spots. They have a ‘Featured’ listing badge on the top left of the image thumbnail. 

 

How do they work?

 

Featured Ads run using the same algorithm as our Promoted Ads product, meaning you’ll gain visibility according to the search results on a share of voice basis. These five spots will be equally shared based on demand; our innovative algorithm with pick and share listings so that everyone who opts in gets an equal share of voice.

No, you can choose to feature any of your live listings. However, we recommend verifying your listing, too, if it falls under our verification criteria to attract even more interest with property seekers!

Can I select an ad to Promote and Feature at the same time?

Property duplication policy

 

You want quick results when posting on OUI. We want that for you too! To make this happen, here are our recommendations.

 

  • Please do not post duplicate ads in one or multiple categories, as they are a source of frustration for our user community. If you’re unsure which type to use, try searching to find out where others have put similar ads. If you post the same ad in multiple categories, they may be removed from OUI.
  • It’s not about quantity but quality. So focus on creating quality ads for that inventory you want to move off the shelf. Remember, we serve as your property showcase – if a user sees multiple same or similar looking properties from you, they will deem you a suspicious agency to deal with, and you will not reel in the quality leads you to want.
  • If you have several units of the same layout in a particular building, we suggest you make a note of that in the title and description instead of creating multiple property ads for it. (Does not apply for rooms for rent)

 

Please note:  

 

  • When we delete a duplicate property ad that belongs to you, you lose credibility. Hence, to avoid wastage, make sure you use your credits for your unique properties and refresh the ones you want to promote.
  • To get all agents the most leads, we reserve the right to remove ads that hinder the user experience and the chances of agents using the site fairly.
